It’s May and the Des Moines Farmers’ Market is back in full swing.  Every Saturday morning from 7 AM to Noon starting the first weekend in May and going through the last weekend in October, Downtown Des Moines is the host of the largest Farmers’ Market in the state.  With over 200 hundred vendors covering 7 blocks, up to 20,000 people congregate each Saturday to taste the best that Iowa has to offer.  If you haven’t checked it out, it needs to be on your list.  It’s worth a trip.  Get there early.  By 9:30 it’s packed.  Feel free to bring your dog.  Bring cash and an appetite and enjoy many creative food items for your Saturday morning breakfast, early lunch and then buy the fresh items you need for your Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon cookout back at home.

For 10 years or more, this has been my wife and my favorite date when the warmer weather hits.  We go as often as we can.  There’s nothing like a smoked barbeque Iowa Pork sandwich at 7:30 in the morning.  Bring the clan.  It’s a food and visual feast for everyone.
